Fassil Garemariam, Senior Advisor

photo_fgFassil Gabremariam, an American of Ethiopian heritage, has 30 years of senior financial management experience in the Telecommunication and Information Technology industries in both domestic and overseas environments. He was the former Area Vice President of Finance for GTE Corporation (now Verizon) and Vice President of Finance and Treasurer of Intermedia Corporation.

He is a very active member of his community and serves a variety of organizations including the Federal Reserve representing the region, a Board Trustee of the University of Tampa, Chairman of Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo and a Member of the Committee on Foreign Relations of Tampa Bay. He is also a former Commissioner of the Tampa Port Authority and Board Member of the Technology Sector of Enterprise Florida, the Florida Merchants Association and University Community Hospital.

He is a recipient of several awards and recognitions including an Honorary Doctorate from the University of South Florida in May 2003 for his work on the African Growth and Opportunity Act, the Caribbean Initiative and in February 2006 he was honored and inducted into the Florida Business Hall of Fame by the Florida Council on Economic Education.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Fassil and his family reside in Tampa, Florida where they are very active members and officers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church of St. Mary.
