PC Maintenance
A little preventative maintenance for your business desktop
At least once a year, you should open up your desktop pc and blow it with a can of compressed air. Be careful not to turn the compressed air upside down, and you may want to take the computer outside before you blow the dust out of it.
Then: Defrag your hard drive. Disk defragmenting achieves uneven improvement, but there is no reason not to run it. Defragging reassembles and rearranges files that have become scattered across the drive, ensuring that your computer can get to each file as quickly as possible.
Delete programs and services that are not used.
Run Disk Cleanup accessible from your Programs Menu under Accessories – System Tools.
Last but not least: update your anti-virus definitions and update your operating system with any current security patches that are available. These last two steps are vital to a healthy desktop.
These steps are not a cure-all to a slow running pc, but regular maintenance will keep your business desktop running smoothly. You can also have these PC maintenance items run automatically for you with a recurring maintenance agreement.
